Calling all runners! You can strengthen the community through your stride on National Walk at Lunch (NW@L) Day.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) hosts NW@L Day annually to encourage Nebraskans to prioritize their health. Companies, schools and individuals are invited to lace up their sneakers and walk for 30 minutes, whenever and wherever its convenient for them on April 28.

Giving back to the community on NW@L Day is simple: BCBSNE will donate to Special Olympics Nebraska (SONE) $1 for every participating individual and $20 for every school or company that pledges to participate. SONE is a nonprofit providing sports, health and education programming for people with disabilities and has been a long-time NW@L collaborator.

“As a local company, the health of our state and the well-being of those who live, work and play here is important to us,” Kathy Nellor, BCBSNE health transformation leader, said. “NW@L Day provides an excellent opportunity for BCBSNE to give back while inspiring Nebraskans to add more movement to their days.”

For the first time this year, YMCAs across Nebraska are also teaming up with BCBSNE to encourage activity on NW@L Day. Participating Y locations (locations and hours listed here) will open their doors to the community for free, so people can test out a facility and exercise indoors if they prefer.

BCBSNE hopes you’ll help make this walk/run part of your Cornfield Cornfield training plan and would love to see your photos on April 28! Tag @BCBSNebraska on social media and use #NationalWalkAtLunchDay.
